Setting up your play area for tracking
- Use consistent, indirect lighting to illuminate the walls, ceiling, and floor. The environment should be bright enough for reading a book.
Cover the walls and floor with dynamic, contrasting patterns. Monochromatic patterns (black and white) work best, but color patterns will work if they have enough contrast.
Because tracking performance relies mostly on the bottom two headset cameras, users may unintentionally obstruct the field of view of the cameras during play. To avoid tracking issues, make sure the floor is covered with contrasting shapes and patterns.
Use patterns with lots of intersecting lines and polygons to create feature points (blue dots), which will improve overall tracking performance. The headset tracking engine automatically identifies naturally occurring corners and intersecting lines as feature points.
Make sure all patterns, symbols, and lines vary in size and are distributed evenly throughout the environment. The number of identifiable feature points in a pattern decreases as the distance between a user and the pattern increases.

- Minimize the use of reflective materials such as mirrors, glass, glossy paint, and metal fixtures, which may affect tracking performance.
- For safety purposes, make sure your environment is large enough for all users to maintain at least 1.5 meters of separation during play.
