About Gear Selection
Similar to the Fall Protection Module, the trainee starts in the locker room area.
The trainee will be shown 6 sets of PPE, consisting of good and broken items, and must select the appropriate item from each set.
The following will be displayed:
Practice inspecting and selecting gear from the locker to your right. When you are ready to test come back to this screen and press start to begin.
After pushing START, text on console screen displays:
Inspect and select gear from the locker. To make your selection equip the item on your body. Try not to equip gear that looks broken.
When the trainee presses START, the first set of items appears on the locker shelves. Each set consists of both good and poor-quality versions of the item. The trainee must inspect and choose the correct version of the item by grabbing it and placing it on their body.
If the correct item is chosen: a green flash appears, and an upbeat beep is heard.
If the incorrect item is chosen: a red flash appears, and an ominous buzz is heard.
The next set of items will appear on the shelves after each choice, regardless of accuracy.
Trainees are presented with the following sets, in order:
Setup 1 | 3 Hardhats |
Setup 2 | 3 Pairs of Goggles |
Setup 3 | 3 Radios |
Setup 4 | 3 Dust Masks |
Setup 5 | 6 Gas Meters |
Setup 6 | 3 Pairs of Gloves |
Note: Setup 5 includes broken and unbroken meters, a CO2 meter (incorrect choice), and a 5-gas meter. In addition to choosing an unbroken gas meter, trainees need to distinguish between a CO2 and a 5-gas meter, and correctly choose the 5-gas meter:
5-Gas Meter | CO2 Meter |
---|---|
Correct | Incorrect |
After choices for all 6 setups are made, the trainee returns to the Main Hub, and shown their score on the console screen. The screen will show Gear Selection Completed along with a letter grade score (A - F). Each setup will be listed, along with GOOD in green text for a correct choice or BAD in red for an incorrect choice.
Gear Selection Complete, A (A - F)
Press STOP to go back to the main menu.
Hardhat | GOOD/BAD |
Goggles | GOOD/BAD |
Dustmask | GOOD/BAD |
Radio | GOOD/BAD |
Gas Meter | GOOD/BAD |
Gloves | GOOD/BAD |
The following letter grades will be given based on the number of correct choices:
- All Correct = A
- 4 - 5 Correct = B
- 3 Correct = C
- 1 - 2 Correct = D
- All Incorrect = F
Pressing STOP after the score appears resets the trainee back to the lesson selection screen.
