Setup 3: Lower Gas Meter into Vertical Confined Space
In this setup the trainee will calibrate a 5-gas meter, lower it into the vertical confined space, and monitor the readout.
The console will then ask them if it is safe to enter the confined space.
The trainee appears on the platform with a console in front of them, and a hole leading down to the confined space to their left.
The following appears on the console screen:
Walk over to confined space entrance and take your gas meter and hold it in your hand.
A blue destination circle appears on the ground in front of the entrance to the confined space. When the trainee walks up to it, it disappears and a positive beep plays.
The following appears on the console screen:
Push calibrate button on gas meter.
The trainee must push the blue CALIBRATE button on the 5-gas meter, and a positive beep plays. The following appears on the console screen:
Lower the sensor down into the hole by letting it go and then grabbing the cable. Reach for the cable and press and hold your index finger when touching it, then move your hand down to move it.
If the trainee falls through the hole, the screen darkens and an orange destination circle will appear with arrows pointing inward. The following will appear:
To continue, move to the center.
Once the trainee moves to the orange destination circle, they reset to the platform.
If the trainee drops the sensor, it will respawn on the trainee's belt.
The trainee must lower the sensor into the confined space by grasping the cable with one hand while holding the 5-gas meter in the other, lowering the sensor down into the confined space.
The following will appear on the console screen:
Keep pushing the cable down to 10 feet. You can read the exact depth on the gas meter display.
The trainee must lower the sensor, which will display the depth, to a depth of 10 feet. Once this depth has been reached, a positive beep plays.
The following appears on the console screen:
When you're confident you've seen enough you can place gas meter back to the belt. Is it safe to enter? Please select your answer below.
The reading on the 5-gas meter screen will indicate if the confined space is safe.
The trainee will answer by selecting one of the blue YES/NO buttons under the console screen. If the trainee waits too long, the setup will reset, and they must remeasure the atmosphere in the confined space.
Once the trainee responds, the next setup will begin, regardless of whether it is correct or not.
If the trainee answer correctly, the setup completes and is marked as successful.
If the trainee answer incorrectly, the setup completes and is marked as failed.
If gas meter is dropped from the platform, the setup is marked as failed. It respawns and the trainee must still complete the setup.
